Done Timely, Issue #004 -- A Personal Time Management Questionnaire
February 12, 2024
Hello

Some questions about your way to manage time

What kind is your working environment?
Do you have a few repetitive tasks to do automatically, or a few quite different and difficult tasks? Additionally, to the above situations: how many tasks? Or Are you faced with a lot of different and partially very difficult tasks of medium duration?

If your job belongs to the last category you probably will not be able to use common time management solutions very efficiently. The comments and contributions in Done Timely are dealing with exactly those highly variant, difficult and quite unpredictable working situations.

Care about what?
Within such environments, I talked above: What is the real benefit of knowing the time demand of all your tasks?

What does it improve to know to which category a task belongs?

What is the result of speculating about importance and urgency of a task?

What is the value of short term plans, if they are valid for hours or even minutes only?

As long as you are acting on tasks belonging to your duties, why worry about procrastination?

Try to answer such questions for your individual job, and you will very probably locate your actual demand for time management tools and solutions.

Of course, at a few tasks during a working day it is wise to think, for example, about the time demand. However, does it make sense planning in advance all your tasks with a predefined time span? All the more if you must expect frequent interruptions and arrival of more significant tasks with a new and higher priority?

Anyway sometimes it is more comfortable to keep old habits and using what works, although it is known, that changing an attitude would make life easier.

On my website, you find most of the underlying principles questioning the common time management solutions and paving the path for a new view on simpler ways to manage time.

The TAO Timing approach requires least adoption of new habits. There are so few to understand, that many people couldn´t believe the positive effect first.

I recently got a nice compliment from a colleague working in the same company as I. (I know, such “Testimonials” from closely allied people are not as valuable than of unknown people. However, the words reflect the spirit of the TAO Timing concept):

“My Job is characterized to a large degree by unpredictable events and a lot of quite different tasks. Making short term plans in the morning and using established time management solutions wasted too much time instead of helping me to cope with my task overload. The self-explanatory and simple TAO Timing method immediately enabled me to get a perfect grip on my many duties. As a consequence my job stress level dropped remarkably. Meanwhile I use the method even for the management of my private tasks. Task Organizing Timing made my life easier! Thank you Ronald. Nice greetings, Sabine."

All the best Ronald
